Mr. Helton was born in Morristown to Sandra and Jerry Helton.  His dad has been a teacher at East Ridge Middle School since it opened in 1972.  Mr. Helton grew up on a strawberry farm (Helton's Strawberries) off of Old Kentucky Rd.  He attended Russellville Elementary, East Ridge Middle, and East High School.  Mr. Helton graduated with Honor's from East in 1994 and received a full scholarship to Walters State Community College where he originally pursued a career in Optometry.  He later decided to go into Education, however, and has never regretted that choice.  Mr. Helton met his wife, Angela, at Walters State.  Mr. Helton completed his education degree at Carson-Newman.  He later received his Masters degree in Education at Tusculum where he graduated with a 4.0 GPA.  Mr. Helton's wife is also a teacher in Hamblen County.  They have 1 daughter, Brooke, who attends Russellville.  Mr. Helton is also an ordained minister and is currently serving as the Interim Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church.
